James Harold Jennings (1931 - 1999)
Born in Pinnacle, North Carolina, Jennings lived with his mother until her death in 1974.  On his own, he moved into a school bus with no power and no running water and adopted a whole host of cats.  He worked in a film theater as a projectionist for many years and was already an internationally recognized visionary artist when, in April 1999, he became concerned about his ill health and other problems and committed suicide.  Known for his brightly colored angels, animals, assemblages, whirligigs and articulated sculptures, Jennings' works are included in numerous permanent collections, as well as in the American Folk Art Museum in New York and the American Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore.
