Herbert Singleton (1945 - 2007)

We regret to announce the death of Herbert Singleton on July 25, 2007, following his illness with lung cancer.  Read this online article from the Times-Picayune for more details..

Born in New Orleans, Singleton lived in the the Algiers community.  He is widely acknowledged as a master self-taught carver.  His brightly painted sculptures and bas-relief wood panels are in the Collection de l'Art Brut in Lausanne, Switzerland, as well as in major US collections of Southern folk art.

We have a small number of Singleton works from the late 1980s available for purchase.  All are deep, crisp, relief carvings, typical of Singleton's earlier work.  Please inquire.
