Felix Virgous (b. 1948) Born in Woodstock, Tennessee, Felix Virgous currently lives in South Memphis. His images of biblical stories with flat figures painted in vibrant acrylics on board have a a powerful and appealing graphic quality. The creative work of this African-American artist has been celebrated in several exhibitions including “Fundamental Soul” (Rockford Art Museum, Illinois 1996), “Ordained to Create” (traveling exhibition of works from the Pattie Collection, 2004) , and “Coming Home! Self Taught Artists, the Bible, and the American South” (Memphis and New York City 2004-2005).
