Sharon Yavis (1938 - 2001)

Working in acrylics on paper or plywood panels and in watercolor on paper, Sharon Yavis is known for her portrayals of obese women shown in routine daily activities.  Women in bathing suits at the beach are a favorite theme.   For some of her pieces from the 1980's, Yavis designed especially appealing decorative plywood frames.   Yavis lived in Montgomery, Alabama, for a number of years. Her paintings can be found in many corporate collections and in the Montgomery Museum of Art.    She had a masters degree in art and had won regional and national awards for her work.
